The Ventura Film Festival has earned recognition as "the biggest cinematic celebration ever hosted in Ventura County." This exceptional status highlights the organization's mission of bringing diverse cinema to the local community while maintaining its focus on essential conservation issues.

The Ventura Film Festival serves as an all-inclusive international cinema festival that builds consciousness about conservation issues such as forest and sea protection and rehabilitation, via an annual film festival and associated activities. The event capitalizes on the strength of cinema to motivate engagement and develop substantial discourse on these pressing environmental challenges.

The Ventura Film Festival was established in 2004 and has exhibited numerous cinematic works, usually over 200 films each summer, and has garnered interest from the worldwide filmmaking community. Since its founding, the festival has expanded into a substantial cultural happening that joins filmmakers, environmental advocates, and website audiences from around the world.

Some of the highlights have been hosting award winning filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the first ever world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant combat sports star Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary tribute to West Side Story, which featured welcoming the entire Academy Award winning cast of West Side Story, including Oscar recipient/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris along with Golden Globe winner/Oscar-nominated Russ Tamblyn. These exceptional personalities and celebrations have reinforced the festival's recognition as a premier destination for honoring film and the visionaries who produce it.

The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was selected to take part, together with many of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the half-century commemoration of West Side Story and Hollywood's famous footprint/handprint ceremony recognizing Academy Award champions Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and legendary actor Golden Globe award winner Russ Tamblyn at the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This gathering also operated as the official BluRay premiere by Fox and MGM of the timeless West Side Story, which is commonly viewed by critics and fans as the greatest musical of all time. This prestigious recognition and participation highlights the festival's considerable reach and esteemed status within the Hollywood community.
